Sit back and enjoy a short story by Prabha Girish by clicking on the link below. This story is titled “A Brush With Fame” and speaks light-heartedly of a common man’s dreams of meeting his favorite celebrity.

This story was selected and published in the literary Magazine - “The Taborian”.

This piece is titled ‘Icarus’ and is a tale embedded in the vibrant tapestry of Greek mythology.

Icarus was the son of Daedalus who was a Greek architect and sculptor. Both, Icarus and Daedalus were imprisoned by King Minos of Crete, who feared that they had revealed the secrets of the labyrinth of Crete, that Daedalus had built for the King. Now trapped in a tower overlooking the ocean, Daedalus crafted for Icarus – wings made of wax, feathers & cloth, with which it is said that Icarus escaped. Elated - he flew too close to the Sun, thereby melting his wings, whereupon he plummeted to his death. This tale also serves as caution to never succumb to ego or arrogance, to overconfidence or blind ambition.

The piece is a set of 2 Tankas and 2 Haikus encapsulating the tale of Icarus - from the perspective of Icarus.  This style is known as the ‘Hainka’ made by fusing two Japanese forms of poetry -  Haiku & a Tanka, introduced by the award-winning poet – Mr. Pravat Kumar Padhy. This poem was published in the “Poetic Reveries” magazine.
